The Old Fire Station is a community hub, opened in September 2017. Our aim is to run a thriving, welcoming centre in East Leeds where all are made to feel valued and safe, whilst providing the opportunity to learn, develop and engage in positive activities. The refurbishment of the former Gipton Fire Station was funded by Leeds Community Foundation as a legacy to East Leeds, via the generosity of the late Jimi Heselden. The Old Fire Station is home to six charities, has an onsite café open to the public and hires out space for meetings and events on a daily basis.
The Reception and Events Support role will join our dynamic and hard-working team who ensure that The Old Fire Station is a thriving and welcoming community hub in East Leeds. The Reception and Events Support role will work with the staff team and volunteers, carrying out general administration duties and assisting with events and activities.
A typical day in the life of the Reception and Event Support role would include starting by setting up rooms for organisations visiting the building, welcoming room hire visitors to the building and helping them set up their AV equipment for a presentation. You might then attend a meeting helping to plan events such as family fun days or children’s holiday activities. There might be cleaning required in an area of the building in order for us to keep the high standards expected by our visitors. You may need to support a visitor coming to reception in looking for help, or look after visiting dignitaries at special occasions. All of this is carried out whilst also answering the phone, responding to email enquiries and giving directions to people visiting other organisations in the building. The role is busy with no two days the same, and you need to be able to think on your feet.
A typical working week would be 10.00am – 2.00pm three days a week, normally Tuesday - Thursday. Flexibility to work on a rota system required, as is the ability to work approximately one weekend shift per fortnight.
